Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Romania: Alessio Cioni is the new General Manager and Chief Executive Officer
Intesa Sanpaolo Bank, the Romanian subsidiary of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, one of the most solid banking groups in Europe, announces the appointment of Alessio Cioni as General Director and Chief Executive Officer, whose official mandate began on 08.10.2024, after approval National Bank of Romania and registration at the Bucharest Trade Registry Office.
Alessio Cioni is also an executive member of the bank’s Board of Directors. He succeeds Paolo Vivona, who has taken on a new executive role within the Group. Alessio Cioni brings over two decades of international banking experience and a deep understanding of the financial industry, having previously held senior positions in several countries, including the United States, Serbia, Croatia and Egypt, within the Intesa Sanpaolo Group.
Alessio Cioni’s career began in 2000 at the Intesa Sanpaolo branch in New York. Over the past 20 years, he has contributed to various strategic initiatives and projects of the Group in different countries and regions. His leadership background reflects a keen interest in organizational transformation, efficiency and growth in diverse banking environments.
Alessio Cioni holds a degree in economics from the University of Florence and an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business.

Alessio Cioni was an executive member of the Board of Directors and Deputy General Manager at Alexbank Egypt between 2022 and 2024. Previously, he spent five years as Vice President of the Management Board at Privredna Banka Zagreb, Croatia (2017-2022). During the same period, he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Bosnia and Herzegovina (2018-2022) and Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Slovenia (2018-2024). Between 2014 and 2017, he was Vice President of the Executive Board at Banca Intesa Beograd in Serbia.
Previously, he held the positions of Head of Financing Projects and then Head of the Change and Efficiency Management Division at CIB Bank – Hungary (2009-2014). Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Romania also has a new First Deputy General Manager, Jola Dima, who is also an executive member of the bank’s Board of Directors, along with two new members, Adriana Duțescu and Lorenzo Fossi, each bringing vast experience and expertise in their fields of activity.
All three received the approval of the National Bank of Romania to be part of the Board of Directors. The appointment of the new members of the Board of Directors reflects the Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s commitment to creating an inclusive work environment that values diversity of thought, experience and perspectives.

Jola Dima joined Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Romania as First Deputy General Manager and Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Romania, after a long career as Risk Director, covering areas such as Underwriting, Non-Performing Loans, Credit Risks, Market and Operational. After her initial experience as an external consultant in a member bank of the Milan Group, she joined Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania in 2005, initially in the Financial Division, and later managed the Market, Operational and Credit Risk Departments.
He was also Vice-Chairman of various committees within Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania, including the Credit, Financial, Underwriting, Asset Quality and Operational Risk Committees. He graduated Magna cum Laude in Business Economics from the University of Bologna, Italy in 2001 and completed his first Master in Management and Information Technology (ALMAWEB, Bologna) in 2004.
In 2007, Jola Dima obtained his second Master in Banking Risk Management ( UNSBC, Tirana). Over the years, he has taught at various private universities and attended professional training courses in his fields of interest. Since 2023, he is also a Non-Executive Member of the Board of Directors of JSCB Eximbank, Moldova. With extensive experience in financial and banking management, Jola Dima has demonstrated outstanding skills in innovation and implementation of growth strategies, contributing significantly to the bank’s success and development.
Adriana Duțescu joined the Board of Directors of Intesa Sanpaolo Bank as an Independent Member and Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee. From 2002 to the present, he holds the position of Full Professor, having the responsibility of organizing courses and seminars for the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs within the Faculty of Accounting and Management Information Systems at the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest. She initially started her career in this institution in 1992 as a Debutant Assistant.
With over two decades of experience in auditing and financial consulting, Adriana Duțescu is recognized for her outstanding skills in internal auditing, risk management and corporate governance. His extensive expertise and independent perspective will add value to the bank’s decision-making process.
Lorenzo Fossi, an experienced manager in the banking sector, was appointed Member of the Board of Directors of Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Romania. He started his career in January 2000 when he started working for the French subsidiary of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group. In 2004, he returned to Italy at the head office, where he is today Head of Planning and Control, after holding several management positions within the International Subsidiary Banks Division, always in the field of planning and control. He has extensive experience in finance, cost management and strategic forecasting. His involvement in international projects and his ability to navigate the complexities of global markets will benefit the bank’s expansion and strategic development. He was also a Member of the Supervisory Board of Pravex Bank, Ukraine (2018-2023)
