Ilona Lixandru, HR Director, RetuRO SGR: The leadership needs to mirror its values in the fundamental aspects that define a company’s strategy
”Talking about building a strong and healthy company culture and the way in which people respond to its values, I believe that there are some key elements without which it is difficult to motivate the members of an organization and make them want to contribute to the company’s results. And here I would think first of all of the individual values of each member of an organization, and which would be good to be convergent with those of the company,” Ilona Lixandru, HR Director, RetuRO SGR said during the recently held event People Empowering Business Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.

“Secondly, there is a need for a leadership team aligned with the fundamental aspects that define a company’s strategy. Another thing that has been confirmed to me in the 20 human resources I spent in various industries is the fundamental coherence between words and deeds. And I always tell my colleagues in the company, it can be seen and felt if you do not believe in what you say. It can be seen and felt not only in the working atmosphere but also in the results. The way we look at errors, the way in which they are assumed at any level of the company, whether by leadership or by team member, is an indicator of organizational health. These are the key ingredients to building a healthy organizational culture.
To do this, we created a framework within RetuRO. Since the beginning of our activity, we tried to establish some ground rules. In April 2023, the company consisted of 9 people. In this limited context, feedback was fast, transparent. In the meantime, after a year, we reached 100 employees, we had started opening factories. We built the initial structure of the company together, we established the rules and foundations together, regardless of the formal role. The basis of our strategy was formed by the way we identified and consolidated the values that we rely on in our activity. At this moment, we also work with a group of volunteers who carry forward what we built together, transforming and cascading our daily behaviors and values. Both they and we have a common goal of a higher purpose in our work. I’ve seen this in people who came from different industries, from different generations, and this is a value that unites us all.”
