Nuclearelectrica appoints new Chief Nuclear Officer, new General Manager of Cernavoda NPP Branch

Nuclearelectrica (SNN) announces that the position of General Manager of Cernavoda NPP Branch will be temporarily occupied by Romeo Urjan, starting with January 9, for an initial period of three months, and the position of Chief Nuclear Officer of SNN will be occupied by Valentin Ovidiu Nae, starting from the same date and for the same period, both positions being occupied on the basis of an Individual Employment Contract, according to the organizational structure of SNN.

The change is aimed at the organizational calibration of the critical management and nuclear safety functions in an optimal way, for the current operation of Cernavoda NPP, the further development of SNN’s investment projects, according to a report sent to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

Romeo Urjan has over 30 years of experience in the nuclear industry, including nuclear power plant operation, construction and commissioning, nuclear safety and personnel training. He was the Production Manager of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant until 2002, and subsequently held various management positions in operation, preparation and works control at the Ontario Power Generation nuclear power plant in Canada from 2002 to 2015. Within SNN, Romeo Urjan held the position of Deputy General Manager Operations, being prior to this appointment Director of the Technical and Nuclear Safety Department. Romeo Urjan is a graduate of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and holds an MBA from the Open University Business School in the UK.

Valentin Ovidiu Nae has 38 years of experience in the Cernavoda NPP Branch and the expertise gained during the international expert missions he has participated in, within WANO, his contribution to the SNN management team being demonstrated in practice by the exceptional operating results obtained by CNE Cernavoda. Over the years, Valentin Ovidiu Nae has held operating and management positions, being head of the radiation control section, chief operating engineer specialist, control room operator, chief shift dispatcher Unit 1, Chief Engineer in the Process Systems Department, Director of Operations at SNN. Since 19.10.2020, he held the position of Director of CNE Cernavoda Branch, being responsible for the coordination of production activities and nuclear safety functions.
