Romania Eficienta: OMV Petrom and EPG complete new energy renovation project in Buzau County
OMV Petrom and Energy Policy Group (EPG) announce the completion of the modernization and energy rehabilitation works carried out under the Romania Eficienta program at the Technological High School in Vernești, Buzău County. The school’s workshop building was brought to the nZEB standard (nearly zero energy building), through an investment of approximately 1.3 million euros.
The project is part of the fifth stage of the Romania Eficienta program, within which the buildings of 4 educational units will be modernized and energy-rehabilitated to the nZEB standard with the financial support of over 7.6 million euros from OMV Petrom.
Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom: “It is exciting to see the fourth school renovated under the Romania Eficienta program. Renovating these schools to nZEB standards shows us that we can have efficient and sustainable energy consumption. And that we can all contribute to a low-carbon future.”
Radu Dudău, EPG director and coordinator of the Romania Eficienta project: “We are delighted to continue the series of renovations to nZEB requirements of educational buildings. By completing the works at the Vernești Technological High School, Buzău County, EPG reaffirms its commitment to contributing to improving learning conditions for students in Romania and to modernizing the infrastructure of the education system, which requires significant investments.”
The Vernești Technological High School building, which benefited from in-depth renovation through the Romania Eficienta program, dates back to the 2000s and has an area of around 300 sqm. The building hosts workshops and laboratories for 140 students, guided by 20 teachers.
Following the completion of the works, students and teachers will be able to carry out educational activities in a healthy and comfortable indoor environment, which encourages school performance. The total annual energy consumption of the building will be reduced by over 60 percent, and part of the electricity required for operation will come from its own, renewable sources.
The main energy rehabilitation and modernization works of the workshop building carried out through the Romania Eficienta program:
- Thermal insulation of the exterior walls and ceiling of the building;
- Replacement of the roof covering and rainwater drainage system;
- Installation of energy-efficient joinery, equipped with triple-layer thermal insulation glass, with a differentiated solar factor depending on the orientation and level of exposure of the windows to the sun;
- Renovation of heating and domestic hot water production installations;
- Changing heating and plumbing installations;
- Installation of a modern ventilation system with heat recovery;
- Replacing the lighting system with an energy-efficient one, with LED fixtures;
- Equipped with a photovoltaic panel system that ensures the production of “green” electricity.
The Technological High School in Vernești is the fourth educational unit in the national public system to benefit from extensive energy efficiency works to nZEB standards through the Romania Eficienta program, after the Elie Radu Technological Energetic High School in Ploiești, the Liliești Junior High School in Băicoi, Prahova County, and the Zig-Zag Kindergarten in Ovidiu, Constanța County.
