Transelectrica has started the refurbishment of the Stâlpu Station and the construction of the new 400 kV station
The National Electricity Transmission Company Transelectrica is starting the execution works on the construction of the “400 kV Stâlpu Station” and for the investment “Modernization of 110 kV and medium voltage cells in the Stâlpu Station”. The works, worth approximately 95 million lei, are scheduled for completion in January 2027.
Ștefăniță Munteanu, President of the Directorate: “The need to increase the power to evacuate electricity from renewable sources in the southeast of the country, but also the need to build the new 400 kV line that will connect the southeast system area, through the Stâlpu station, to the Transylvania area, in the Brașov station, as well as the transition to 400 kV of the Brazi Vest – Teleajen – Stâlpu axis, requires prioritizing the completion of the investment in the Stâlpu Station. The strategic projects that Transelectrica carries out to increase the capacity to integrate renewable energy and to modernize electrical installations ensure Romania’s energy security in the future, under the conditions of the energy transition, and at the same time create favorable premises for the development of the economic environment both at the national level and at the level of local communities.”
The investment for the refurbishment of the existing Stâlpu station and the construction of the new 400 kV station are based on the need to evacuate the energy produced in the Dobrogea area by the future units 3 and 4 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, the construction and connection to the grid of new plants from renewable sources, as well as the strengthening of the security of supply to consumers.
Thus, the completion of the new 400 kV Stâlpu station will allow the connection of the 400 kV Cernavodă – Stâlpu Overhead Power Line, a line currently completed and connected to the Gura Ialomiței station, as well as the connection of the Brazi Vest – Teleajen – Stâlpu Overhead Power Line Axis, after the completion of the transition works to the 400 kV voltage, currently underway.
The 220/110/20 kV Stâlpu Transformer Substation was designed in 1971 and built between 1975 and 1977, with commissioning taking place in 1977.
According to the Development Plan for the Electric Transmission Network for the period 2024 – 2033, recently approved by the National Energy Regulatory Authority, with a total value of 9.4 billion lei, the projects intended for the re-engineering and modernization of electrical installations planned for the next 10 years by Transelectrica have the largest share of the value of the Development Plan, equivalent to approximately 2.9 billion lei.
The other priorities for the development of the electric transmission network for the next 10 years are: security of consumption supply, integration of production from renewable sources and from new plants in Dobrogea and Moldova and increasing interconnection capacity.
