Orange Romania announces 2024 financial results

Orange Group announces today its financial results for 2024, available on December 31.
In 2024, turnover was 1.416 billion euros, down 8.5% compared to the previous year. In the fourth quarter, Orange Romania achieved a consolidated turnover of 367 million euros, down 9.8% compared to Q4 2023. As of December 31, 2024, Orange offered mobile services to 9.3 million customers, fixed broadband internet to 1 million customers and cable and satellite television services to 1 million customers. Completion of the merger of Orange Romania and Orange Romania Communications, a catalyst for significant investments The company has consolidated its position as a convergent telecommunications operator, by completing the merger between Orange Romania S.A. (ORO) and Orange Romania Communications S.A. (OROC), on June 1, 2024.
Orange remains consistent in its objective to strengthen its position on the Romanian fixed-mobile integrated services market for both residential and business customers. Orange Network: continued investments to improve the network and expand coverage Despite the growing challenges in the market, investments in network expansion and modernization continued in 2024, being an essential component of the company’s strategy for long-term development.
The expansion of the fixed network coverage and the technology upgrade from FTTB (Fiber to the Building) to FTTH (Fiber to the Home) contribute to increasing the performance of internet services, thus benefiting customers with higher speeds and an improved experience. Last year, by expanding the infrastructure and modernizing the existing network, Orange Romania added over 278,000 households. The expansion also targeted the 5G mobile network, which now covers 45 cities, as well as improvements to existing networks for 4G and 4G+ services. Orange was once again recognized as the number 1 network in Romania for mobile internet and voice services.
The independent external auditor LCC International renewed the certification of the best mobile network at the end of 2024, following comparative measurements carried out for all 4 operators in Romania, in 40 metropolitan areas and on roads between localities. The efforts to expand and modernize the network contributed to those in the commercial area. Despite the stabilization of the subscriber base (postpaid), the residential segment continued to be under pressure in 2024. At the same time, interest in digital services increased. Orange Romania is recording a rise in the number of YOXO users, with a 30% increase in the number of new customers, as well as an increase in the use of digital channels, with 1 in 2 customer interactions being successfully managed by a bot. The B2B segment was an important growth driver, thanks to the accelerated development of IoT solutions (+23% compared to the previous year) and broadband internet services (+9% compared to the previous year), supported by the continuous expansion of fiber optic and 5G networks.
Social responsibility: always a positive impact in communities and on the environment
To support its objectives undertaken to reduce its carbon footprint, by the end of 2024, Orange had 4 virtual green power purchase agreements (vPPAs) in its portfolio, thus ensuring in the long term approximately half of its energy consumption from renewable sources. In addition, through the “Re” program, Orange collected a total of 591,000 phones, which will be reintroduced into circulation through refurbishment or recycling. Also, through special offers aimed at promoting more sustainable choices, the number of refurbished phones sold increased compared to 2023, marking the second consecutive year of growth. Orange remains committed to reducing the digital divide and creating a more inclusive digital future.
The Orange Foundation has stepped up its efforts to provide access to digital education and social inclusion, supported by investments of approximately 2 million euros, with a total number of 88,000 beneficiaries in 2024. Also, the largest free digital education platform for middle school in Romania, Digitaliada, now has over 70,000 active accounts for teachers, parents and students.
“6 months after the legal merger, we are in an active unification process, and the stages we are now taking are fundamental for our long-term success. This was a crucial step for consolidating Orange Romania’s position in the fixed internet and TV segments. We are talking about a complex process that required sustained efforts and thorough preparations. For almost 3 years, we have improved the processes, organizational structure and IT systems of the two companies, but at the same time, we have laid the foundations for the sustainable growth we have assumed for the future. We focus on continuously improving the quality of services and customer experience, but also on increasing business value through efficient investments, in an industry where these are critical for maintaining performance, in the current technological context. The local telecommunications market is competitively unbalanced. After a year 2024 marked by challenges, we expect legislative changes that will create a fair competitive environment, to stimulate investments. Our global experience shows us that only a solid partnership between the political environment and economic and social actors can lead to an increase in the quality of services offered, to investments that contribute to a long-term sustainable development of society as a whole”, said Julien Ducarroz, CEO of Orange Romania.
