Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area increases the occupancy rate of the Cismigiu Hotel

• In the first month and a half since Romania’s full entry into the Schengen Area, the number of bookings registered by Hotel Cismigiu increased by 10%.
2000 In the context of a significant increase in the number of tourist arrivals and overnight stays in Romania in 2024 , the year of air and sea accession to the Schengen Area, interest in Hotel Cișmigiu increased significantly between September and December 2024, and the trend accelerated in the first part of 2025
“We expect that our accession to the Schengen area with land borders will significantly contribute to increasing the confidence of foreign tourists in Romanian destinations ,” said Mirela Cojocaru, general manager of the Cismigiu Hotel. ”We are already seeing solid signals in this regard, reflected in the number of bookings recorded by Hotel Cișmigiu in the first month and a half of this year. In January we recorded an occupancy rate of 65%, up 10% compared to the same period in 2024, and in the first week of February we already had an occupancy rate of 70%. Moreover, we already have 25% of the hotel occupied for March, compared to 14% in the same period last year ,” added Mirela Cojocaru.
Hotel Cișmigiu, part of the Hercesa Romania portfolio since 2004, recorded improved results compared to 2023. Revenues increased by 2%, the occupancy rate was 76%, similar to that of 2023, the Average Daily Rate (ADR) increased by 5%, and the double occupancy rate was 1.52, up from 1.4 in 2023.
Last year, 15% of the tourists who stayed at Hotel Cișmigiu came from Romania, and 85% from outside the country. Of the total foreign tourists, 23% came from Israel, 10% from Great Britain, 9% from Italy, 8% from the United States of America, 7% from Germany and 4% each from Spain, France and Greece.
Cismigiu Hotel – historical landmarks
1912 – Engineer Nicolae Pissiota begins the construction of the Palace Hotel, being the author of the resistance project, while his cousin, arch. Arghir Culina, was in charge of the design and organization of the hotel.
1913 – Palace Hotel, with 200 rooms, is inaugurated.
1941 – The famous Gambrinus Brewery opens on the ground floor of the Palace Hotel.
1948 – The hotel is nationalized and renamed “6 Martie”.
1965 – The building receives the Cișmigiu Hotel name.
1985 – The hotel is closed due to degradation.
1990 – The building becomes the dormitory of the students of the Academy of Theater and Film.
1995 – Hotel Cișmigiu is closed again due to significant degradation.
2004 – Hercesa acquires Hotel Cișmigiu.
2012 – Cismigiu Hotel is reopened and returned to the tourist and cultural circuit, following an investment of 15 million euros.
Hercesa in Romania
Hercesa has been present on the Romanian market since 2004 and has since delivered over 1,000 apartments in the Vivenda Residencias project in the Titan area of Bucharest. Stellaris Residencias is the second large-scale residential project developed by Hercesa Romania in Bucharest after Vivenda Residencias and will comprise a total of 4,500 apartments. The first building of the first phase of Stellaris Residencias was completed in December 2024, and the company is currently building the second block.
