Cosmin Ghita, Nuclearelectrica: “We have an investment program of 12-15 billion euros in total to expand capacity”

“The partnership between Romania and the US in the field of nuclear energy is a solid one. We are currently talking about an investment program of 12-15 billion euros in total to expand capacity, so that by the middle of the next decade we can cover up to 40 percent of Romania’s energy needs, considering an increase in national consumption following industrialization and the creation of data centers,” Cosmin Ghita, CEO of Nuclearelectrica, said in an interview for Calea Europeana.
- “Romania has a very well-developed telecommunications infrastructure and is an energetically favorable place to host data centers in the region.”
- “The partnership with higher education institutions is critical. We have a series of dual projects in collaboration with these institutions. There is interest from technical universities for collaborations and Romania needs as many human resources as possible.”
- “A career in nuclear energy is sustainable, stable and offers more professional satisfaction than in other fields where the turnover rate is much higher.”
Nuclearelectrica recorded a net profit of 1.7 billion RON in 2024, down 31.9 percent compared to 2023, with an operating income of 4.79 billion RON, down 36.9 percent, according to the report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
The company reported revenues from electricity sales of 4.6 billion RON in 2024, down 27.6 percent. Energy production was 10,019 GWh in 2024, like the previous year.
