Corina Popescu, Electrica: “Romania should be proactive in implementing this Green Deal concept”

“We’ve been talking a lot about digitization lately. Digitization automatically comes bundled with the process of transforming the energy sector. The Green Deal has approved a package of directives that address energy efficiency, the renewable part, e-mobility. Unfortunately, in Romania, the transposition of directives comes very late. Romania should be proactive in implementing this Green Deal concept.” Corina Popescu, CEO Electrica, said during Digital Transformation in Energy & Utilities, organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“The Green Deal involves a fundamental transformation of the energy system. We have to manage unpredictable things. These things can only be done through digitization. We don’t just have to digitize the network. We must have a digitalization on the whole energy flow: production, transport, distribution, and supply.
In a smart city, the consumer begins to play an active role in balancing the system. The consumer can choose, depending on a tariff that is related to the evolution of the stock market price, when to start his dishwasher for example. Digitization is an integrated concept throughout the flow and this is how we should look at it. I am optimistic and convinced that this concept will reach Romania as well, even if we want it or not. The end consumer must have a quality service at an affordable price because we are talking about a utility.
Every company on this energy flow should be allowed to promote those investments that can bring maximum efficiency in conditions bearable for the final consumer.
I extend an invitation to all stakeholders in the energy sector to be more digital in their approach, to let things happen naturally, without barriers that affect the competitiveness of producers.”
