Vodafone supports the first Romanian team at the European Rocketry Challenge competition in Portugal

Vodafone Romania supports the first team of Romanian students that will participate in the largest international competition to launch rockets European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC), which will take place between October 11 and 17, in Ponte de Sor, Portugal. The event is attended by 20 teams and almost 400 students from all over Europe.

“The 2Space team is an example of determination, they are the first students to represent Romania at such an international competition. They put a lot of effort into designing and building the rocket and we are glad that we were able to contribute to make their goal a reality. We wish them success and I strongly believe that some meetings are not accidental at all, and our collaboration will certainly continue, as technological partners, even after returning from Portugal,” said Ciprian Zamfirescu, Digital Transformation Manager, Vodafone Romania. “Vodafone is now undergoing a change designed to meet the current and future needs of our customers, we are evolving from a telecommunications company to a technology company. The period we are going through worldwide has further accelerated the process of adopting new technologies in all fields. We support innovation and in order to be able to respond promptly to the needs of our clients, we are looking for creative people with the initiative to join us. Therefore, we have established partnerships with universities and we invest in the young people who create today’s technology, which we have supported and will continue to support,“ added Ciprian Zamfirescu, who is also the mentor of the 2Space team.

The 2Space team, which will represent Romania, consists of seven students from several faculties in Bucharest: Marius Trifu (Faculty of Automation and Computers), Inesa Schmidt (Academy of Economic Sciences), Andrei-Toma Stoica (Faculty of Automation and Computers ), Constantin-Catalin Chelmus (Faculty of Aerospace Engineering), Andrei Madalin Grigore (Faculty of Aerospace Engineering), Robert Mihai Ionita (Faculty of Aerospace Engineering) and Vlad-Marian Ivanciu (Faculty of Aerospace Engineering). Their rocket is called Eva and weighs almost 30 kg and has a height of 2.5 m, and its goal is to reach 9,000 meters altitude.

EuRoC aims to encourage young people studying engineering to design, build and launch their own vehicles. In a broader sense, the competition aims to encourage students to learn science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to develop their technical skills.
