Leroy Merlin: Online sales have quadrupled in the last three months
Leroy Merlin, a retailer specializing in construction, decoration and gardening, has seen a fourfold increase in online sales in the last three months, from the digital listing of the entire portfolio of over 30,000 products. For the last months of the year, the company estimates the same accelerated pace of sales generated by the e-commerce segment, but also the doubling of telephone orders.
According to the company’s representatives, currently, the share of online sales represents about 10 percent of the total Leroy Merlin Romania business.
To support this accelerated evolution of the e-commerce segment, the company has invested in the logistics area and in the organization of the supply chain platform, as well as in equipping stores with an IT solution to choose the best delivery service provider for each order. For 2022, Leroy Merlin Romania plans to develop numerous logistics organization projects based on the urban supply chain platform and to implement new ways to prepare customer orders faster and more efficiently in retailer stores.
“In the current socio-economic context, but also due to the major changes generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, e-commerce will become a vital component in the business model of each company. We have recorded four times more online sales in recent months, the conversion rate is constantly increasing and over three million customers visit our site every month. It is a welcome sign from the market, which motivates us to continue investing in the development of this segment and providing easy shopping experiences for our customers, part of the omnichannel sales strategy. For the next few years, we easily estimate a doubling or even tripling of annual online sales,” said Frédéric Lamy, CEO of Leroy Merlin Romania.
According to Leroy Merlin Romania, the cities that generated the most online orders were Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.
