E-Distributie Muntenia extends the electricity grid in Ilfov and Giurgiu counties
E-Distributie Muntenia, the electricity distribution operator part of the Enel Group, is carrying out works to expand the electricity distribution grid in Ilfov and Giurgiu counties by approximately 20 kilometres. The investment amounts to 5.7 million RON, of which 2.9 million RON is provided by the distribution operator, and the difference is covered by the local authorities.
Thanks to the works, the homes of 614 families, most of them from disadvantaged background, were connected to the electricity grid. In addition, each place of consumption benefits from a smart meter, which helps customers to have a better control of the electricity consumption and, implicitly, to save electricity.
“An open society, based on electricity, to which we aim for in the energy transition, needs smart grids to efficiently distribute electricity to all consumers, regardless of the background they come from. Through these investments, E-Distributie Muntenia provides not only electricity access to 614 families from three localities in Ilfov and Giurgiu counties, but also real support in the education of children and youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds, opening the way to a better future,” said Alin Craciunescu, director of E-Distributie Muntenia.
In Tunari commune, Ilfov county, E-Distributie Muntenia has completed the extension of the electricity distribution grid on Petuniei, Anemonelor, Garoafei, ZambiRON, Trandafirilor, Lalelelor, Tuberozelor, Irișilor, Bujorului, Brîndșei streets to the benefit of 445 families. The total investment was about 3.2 million RON and involves the installation of one substation, a medium voltage cable on a length of about 0.6 kilometres, and a low voltage cable on a length of about 8.2 Kilometres.
In Vidra, Ilfov County, E-Distributie Muntenia has completed the extension of the electricity distribution grid on Manastirii Street, to the benefit of 156 families. The total investment is about 2.1 million RON and involves the installation of three substations, a medium voltage cable on a length of about 3.6 kilometres, and a low voltage cable on a length of 5.2 kilometres.
All four substations installed in the two localities are equipped with telecommunications equipment to allow inclusion in the telecontrol system. Through this system, the electricity distribution operator intervenes quickly, remotely, if damage is registered in the grid.
In Giurgiu County, E-Distributie Muntenia has completed the works to extend the electricity distribution grid in the city of Bolintin Vale, on Trandafirilor and Maceșului streets, to the benefit of 13 families. The total investment was about 0.5 million RON. This project involved the installation of one substation, 34 low voltage pillars, a medium voltage cable on a length of about 0.750 kilometres, and a low voltage cable on a length of about 1.3 kilometres.
This year, the amounts allocated by the E-Distributie companies for new user connections, including those imposed by the primary legislation, reach about 360 million RON (73 million euros). In total, E-Distributie companies in Romania will invest about 940 million RON in 2021, the equivalent of 191 million euros, in modernizing, digitalizing, and expanding the electricity grid in Bucharest and the ten counties in which it operates.
The electricity grids operated by the three E-Distributie companies count over 131,000 kilometres, 286 transformer stations and 23,575 substations. In 2020, they distributed over 15.3 TWh of electricity, through high, medium, and low voltage power lines.
