ADR participated in the signing of the joint declaration on the operationalization of the joint digital space Romania-Republic of Moldova

On June 16, 2022, Romania’s cooperation with the Republic of Moldova entered a new milestone: the Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitization, Sebastian Burduja, signed in Chisinau, together with the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Digitization, Iurie Turcanu, a joint statement on the establishment of a Joint Commission for the Implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Digital Transformation between the two States.

The Romanian-Moldovan Joint Commission will be composed of representatives of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization, the Romanian Digitization Authority and the National Directorate of Cyber ​​Security (DNSC) – from Romania, as well as representatives of relevant government institutions in the Republic of Moldova : Electronic Governance Agency, Information Technology and Cyber ​​Security Service and Public Services Agency.

The Joint Commission shall be chaired by each of the signatory parties to the rotating declaration for a period of six months. The first president of the Commission was appointed Octavian Oprea, vice-president of the Romanian Digitization Authority.

“Through this step we send a clear message to citizens and authorities at national, regional and international level, as well as to the business and ICT community on the left and right of the Prut, namely that this common digital space between Chisinau and Bucharest will propel us to a new level. administrative and economic,” said Iurie Țurcanu, Deputy Prime Minister for Digitization of the Republic of Moldova.

As my friend, colleague, distinguished Mr. Țurcanu said, this common digital space means the chance of our countries to develop integrated, harmoniously, in step with the times. Digital union means the chance to develop. Digitization means connecting people to opportunities: connecting citizens to each other, connecting citizens to state services, and to the opportunities offered by the private sector. Bridges across the Prut must not only be made of concrete, cement and iron: they can be made easier, more efficiently, digitally, with new technologies. Through our joint effort, Romania and the Republic of Moldova can have a common brand in front of the whole of Europe: a brand of digital transformation that is based on the excellent human resources we have in both states “, said the Romanian Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitization, Sebastian Burduja.

“This moment marks the digital connection of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union – from now on, from a digital point of view, citizens across the Prut will be able to benefit from digital rights like those of European citizens. We can say that today the Republic of Moldova has integrated from a digital perspective into the European Union,” said the vice-president of ADR, Octavian Oprea.
