Purcari Winery installs irrigation system for 300 ha of its vineyards
Purcari Winery has completed its investments in an irrigation system that covers 300 ha of its vineyards, with the option to further extend the system to an area of 500 ha.
The company opted for an intelligent, fully automated subsurface drip irrigation system – Netafim, who is among the leaders in the field of irrigation solutions. The water for the irrigation system is sourced from 6 km into two storage pools of 11,000 cubic metres and 24,000 cubic metres respectively.
This investment is part of the Group’s sustainable development strategy, with the objective to assure high quality grapes in the context of regional climatic changes.
“The Irrigation System is an important investment for Purcari Wineries and a certain step towards precision agriculture. Subsurface drip irrigation is one of the most efficient methods of irrigation, placing water directly into the root zone, hence reducing evaporation and preventing possible diseases by minimizing water contact with the leaves. This investment will increase the grape yield in the long-run and will extend the life of the vine plants to over 50 years,” said Victor Bostan, CEO of Purcari Wineries PLC Group.
