The champions of the business environment, awarded by the The Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB)
The Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) is organizing on Wednesday, October 5, the XXIXth edition of the TOP COMPANIES IN BUCHAREST, a traditional event for the most dynamic and solid business community in the country.
The awards ceremony is attended by managers of the best performing Bucharest companies, representatives of the central and local administration, but also of non-governmental organizations – professional associations, chambers of commerce and employers’ organizations.
“The performances of those at the top in this edition are all the more meritorious as the results obtained in 2021, the second year marked by the economic and health crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, were rewarded. This year, more than ever, we reward vision, resilience and the ability to adapt business models to a volatile economic and social environment, complicated by the resettlement of supply and distribution chains. Even in these difficult conditions, the business community in the capital proved to be, once again, up to the task”, says Iuliu Stocklosa, president of CCIB.
The awarded companies were selected according to a complex and rigorous methodology, applied uniformly at the level of the chamber system. In establishing the final rankings, indicators such as: net turnover, operating profit, operating profit rate, the efficiency of the use of human resources and employed capital were taken into account, calculated on the basis of 16 elements extracted from the financial statements submitted by the companies to the Ministry of Public Finance and at the National Office of the Trade Registry.
Among the 156,777 companies with headquarters in the Capital, which submitted the balance sheet for 2021, 56,760 companies met the eligibility criteria, an increase of 15.6% compared to the previous year. Of these, we award 7,251 companies (+4.2%, compared to the previous edition).
Regarding the structure by activity fields, most of the companies awarded by the Bucharest Chamber are active in the service field (35% of the total), followed by companies from the trade field (28%) and those with an industrial profile (20%) . Also, a 6% share belongs to the construction, research, development and high-tech sectors, tourism concentrates 3% of the awarded companies, and 2% come from agriculture, forestry and fishing.
In order to achieve a ranking as objective as possible, within each group companies are awarded in five size classes: very large, large, medium, small and micro-enterprises.
The 7,251 companies in the Top achieved a turnover of 96 billion euros, up 15% compared to last year, an operating profit of over 9.6 billion euros (+31% compared to the previous edition). 536 thousand employees work in these companies, an increase of 7% compared to the previous edition of the Top.
The awarded companies are part of the most dynamic and important business community of the country. With an unemployment rate of only 1.08% compared to 2.56% nationally, Bucharest concentrates 22% of all active companies in Romania, 21% of all employees in the country, almost 30% of the sales area and of the stores with at the national level, 19% of the value of Romanian exports, 31% of the value of imports made by Romania and about 60% of the country’s scientific research activity.
In addition to the distinctions awarded for the economic results achieved in 2021, during the event, excellence trophies are awarded to the companies that in the last five years ranked on the podium in the elite competition, the “George G. Assan” trophy, for the “Romanian Brand of the Year “, the “Ioan V. Socec” trophy, as well as a series of special awards to multinational and domestic companies, as well as to media institutions.
