Ruxandra Lupsa, NXP Semiconductors: “We are training our managers to create the proper climate at work”
“We have been introducing the concept of working from home in 2014 because we are in the R&D software development business and our people really wanted the possibility to work some days of the week from their homes. Belonging at work is directly linked to the concept of climate. Climate at work is part of the organizational culture, and it’s extremely important for any company to invest time and energy in creating a proper climate. It’s directly linked to leadership, to leadership styles. We’re investing in our managers; we are training them to create the proper climate at work. For example, they explain to their teams that their work is meaningful, that they have all the means and tools to fulfill their daily work and to be able to reach their long-term goals,” Ruxandra Lupsa, Eastern Europe HR Director, NXP Semiconductors said during Belonging at Work HR conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“Everyone has goals, and we try to identify this from the inception, meaning the talent acquisition phase. But we are also growing and giving people what they need to reach their long-term goals.
Talking about the hybrid work or the flexible work arrangement, we indicate that three days in the office and two days from home would be ideal to solve many aspects of our life including the work-life balance but also socializing with our colleagues, having the most efficient setup for the projects, and also ensuring this proper work climate.
For example, in Romania we have colleagues working fully remotely and coming to the office only once per quarter. We’re going after the talents, and we are doing our best to offer them meaningful work and whatever they need to reach their personal goals.
Our leadership is very preoccupied to set new basis for our organizational culture and the first thing they did is to define a combination of our mission and vision which became our purpose. The purpose of our company is to bring together bright minds to create breakthrough technologies to make the world better, safer and more secure.
The set of values also went through a transformation and adaptation to nowadays world. Leaders need to listen with empathy, and convey the purpose of the company to each one of their team members. The empathic listening generates feedback, and permanent feedback is the most important aspect of our culture.
HR needs to be really open to digitalization and to adapt new tools and instruments to make our life easier in a sense of automating any repetitive tasks.”
