Second school modernized within Romania Eficienta program, supported by OMV Petrom
OMV Petrom and Energy Policy Group (EPG) announced the completion of the renovation and rehabilitation works of the Liliesti Secondary School in Baicoi, carried out as part of the Romania Eficienta program. This is the second educational institution in the country to have been modernized at almost zero energy consumption standards (nZEB). The first unit renovated through Romania Eficienta was the “Elie Radu” Energetic Technological High School in Ploiești, in 2022.
The total investment in this project was 1.6 million Euro, supported by OMV Petrom through the Romania Eficienta program, run by Energy Policy Group (EPG).
Christina Verchere, CEO OMV Petrom: “More than 80 percent of Romanians consider that the energy improvement of schools is a priority. Also, education towards a responsible energy consumption is essential for a cleaner environment and sustainable economic development. Through the Romania Eficienta program we’ve showed what can be done – two schools have been modernized to have a minimum energy consumption. We will continue to support the project; another two education institutions are to be rehabilitated during this year.”
Radu Dudau, President of EPG and coordinator of România Eficienta program: “The energy efficiency of buildings has become more important than ever, in the new security context in the region, when each saved kWh matters. Also, we must not ignore the effects of the climate change, which we are feeling more and more. The nZEB renovation offers solutions to many problems, making buildings more energy efficient, more sustainable and resilient, as well as more comfortable.”
The rehabilitation works carried out at the Secondary School Liliești will generate an annual reduction of about 60 percent of the energy consumption for the thermal heating of the building. This result can also be achieved with the help of the new system formed of 5 heating pumps provided by Siemens Energy, who joined as sponsor to this renovation project. In addition, the school will benefit from “green” electricity, obtained from own sources, through a system of 30 photovoltaic panels with an installed power of 550W each.
Alongside the reduction of energy bills, after the renovation at nZEB standards, the approximately 450 pupils who learn at the Secondary School Liliești in Baicoi, under the guidance of circa 40 teachers, will benefit from the best conditions for school performance.
The modernization works consisted of:
- Thermal insulation of the roof and remaking of the hydroisolation;
- Setting up a system of 30 photovoltaic panels, 500W each;
- Thermal insulation of the facade;
- Replacing the woodwork with an energy efficient one, with three layer glass window;
- Installation of aluminum sunshades, electrically adjustable, for the sunny windows;
- Modernization of indoor heating units (pipelines and radiators);
- Setting up air filtration equipment with heat recovery;
- Rework of the electrical wiring and setting up a modern LED lightning system;
- Setting up a heating system of 5 heating pumps, provided by Siemens Energy;
- Thermal insulation of the basement.
The renovation works at the Secondary School Liliești Baicoi started last year.
The investments made by Romania Eficienta will continue with another two education institutions in Ovidiu (Constanța county) and Drobeta-Turnu Severin (Mehedinți county). They will be rehabilitated and modernized to be brought to nZEB standards during a new phase of the Romania Eficienta program, in amount of EUR 4 mn, supported by OMV Petrom. In the same time, Romania Eficienta will continue the education programs and the public information campaigns regarding the energy efficiency of buildings.
