Mihai Barbu, Engie Romania: “Key ingredients for successful photovoltaic projects are location, well-made design and top equipment”
“Engie is involved in the energy transition by offering affordable, sustainable and reliable energy. How do we do that? By accelerating investments in renewable energy, reconfirming the commitment to the energy transition to achieve climate neutrality for all business lines and group activities by 2045. By 2030, in addition to wanting 58 percent of our production to be green, we aim to save 45 megatons of CO2 equivalent each year,” Mihai Barbu, Head of Dept. Energy Efficiency Solutions Coordination, Engie Romania said during Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Business Conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“We have the largest onsite photovoltaic park. The investment was made by Engie Romania and we are talking about a glass factory.
As ingredients for a successful photovoltaic project, I would say location, location, location. In addition, a well-made design and top equipment are needed.”
In May 2022, ENGIE Romania and Saint-Gobain Romania announced a partnership for the construction of the largest photovoltaic park in Romania, located on the land of the company’s glass factory. The result of this partnership will be a system of photovoltaic panels, with an installed capacity of 8.6 MWp, for the production of renewable energy that serves the industrial site in Calarasi. The energy produced will be used 100% for self-consumption.
ENGIE Romania will contribute to the decarbonization efforts of Saint-Gobain Romania, by developing this photovoltaic park and by providing green energy. The ground-mounted photovoltaic panels will provide approximately 20% of the electricity needs of the glass factory in Calarasi, being avoided over 2,400 tons of CO2 per year. The amount of green energy produced is estimated at over 14,000 MWh / year.
