2023 – the year of extended partnerships at AHK Romania
The summer event of the Romanian-German business community, the Summer Festival, brought together in the garden of the Crowne Plaza hotel in Bucharest over 600 guests, from the political and governmental area, from business, from professional and non-profit associations, from the public administration and mass media.
With this, the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry proves once again that it is a link between the economic, social and political environments in Romania. AHK thus lays the foundations for building strong partnerships and fulfills its promise made at the beginning of the year, through the chosen motto: “Strengthening Partnerships – Turn Challenges into Opportunities”.
At the opening of the event, Sebastian Metz, the general director of AHK Romania, thanked the members for such a large presence, which proves that “we are a strong business community, which gets involved beyond economic themes and in social projects. Because when we talk about partnerships, we mean not only business, but also society and sport”.
That’s why we invited Carol-Eduard Novak, former Minister of Sports and winner of five gold medals at the Paracycling World Championships, as well as a gold medal at the Paralympic Games in London in 2011, to join the event. The only champion paralympian of Romania said that the basis of his success was a strategy of setting targets, which motivated him and teamwork, which helped him coordinate: “Sometimes people can disappoint you, but nothing can be built without a team. Without the exchange of ideas, experiences, energy, without mutual support, no victory lasts. More than any other field, sport teaches us what the power of the team means, of fair play, and these principles must guide us throughout our entire life, career or business option”.
The president of AHK Romania, Andreas Lier, thanked the companies in the AHK community for the solidarity shown to Ukraine and for strengthening partnerships with the Republic of Moldova. “AHK’s success is your success – a strong team and many partners,” he told the members, adding that despite all the challenges, the prospects for Romanian-German economic relations remain excellent. “Romania has become a technology and innovation hub, will continue to attract investment and will play an important role in the green transformation and competitiveness of the European Union, given that new themes such as energy are becoming increasingly important. Romanian-German bilateral relations marked a new record last year, by reaching the threshold of 40 billion euros in terms of commercial exchanges, and the investment dynamic continues”, said Lier.
In addition to music and good cheer, the traditional charity raffle was also present. Member companies have made available over 400 prizes ranging from food and picnic items to solar chargers, vacuum cleaners, ergonomic office furniture, watches and meal and holiday vouchers. The sum collected from the raffle tickets, over 27,000 RON, was donated to three non-governmental organizations: Altenhilfe Bukarest, Taxiul Cu Bomboane and Ajungem Mari
The amount donated to Altenhilfe Bukarest will be used for the monthly aid given to elderly people representing the German minority in Bucharest, with low incomes. These consist of food and medicine and support for winter utility costs. The Candy Taxi helps to improve the quality of life of sick and disabled children, and Ajungem Mari supports the education of children and young people from foster care centers and disadvantaged environments.
The Summer Celebration is a traditional event of AHK Romania, organized for 20 years, with the aim of bringing together the Romanian-German business community with the rest of society, in a relaxed and pleasant setting.
About AHK Romania
AHK Romania is the official representation of the German economy. Established in 2002, AHK counts more than 580 member companies and offers companies an important platform for networking, information exchange and experiences. Through the services it offers and through the events it organizes, AHK Romania actively supports German companies when they enter the Romanian market and is also a partner of Romanian companies interested in the German market.
From January 1, 2020, the Competence Center for the Republic of Moldova also operates within AHK Romania. We thus want to intensify business relations between companies from Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Germany and to contribute significantly to the economic development of the Republic of Moldova.
The leitmotif of 2023 for AHK Romania: Strengthening Partnerships – Turn Challenges into Opportunities
Strong partnerships are the foundation for meeting current and future challenges. Thinking and acting on partnerships between companies, the political environment, society and education are more important than ever. In this context, we have chosen “Strengthening Partnerships” as the leitmotif for this year. In partnerships, we accompany the transformation into sustainable business models and actively support investments in education, health, science and new technologies. To achieve these ambitious goals, we need to collaborate more closely than ever and think in the same direction. Within Strengthened Partnerships we transform Challenges into Opportunities!
