Orange Romania announces the financial results for the second quarter of 2023
The Orange Group today announces its financial results for the second quarter of 2023, available on June 30.
Between April and June, the Orange Romania Group achieved a consolidated turnover amounting to 377 million euros[i], down 1.2% compared to Q2 2022. Revenues are stable compared to the second quarter of the year previously, excluding the impact of reduced termination rates.
Thus, the results of the quarter reflect the increase in sales of equipment and optical fiber services, but also the decrease in revenues in the context of the reduction of termination rates and the structural decline of some services that no longer meet the needs of the market. In the first six months of 2023, the turnover is 759 million euros.
On June 30, 2023, the Orange Romania Group offered mobile services to 9.8 million customers, fixed broadband internet to 1.1 million customers, and cable and satellite television services to 1.2 million customers . Orange network: 5G+ with speeds up to 1.5 Gbps in Bucharest and other important cities in Romania In order to offer customers the best connectivity experience, Orange continued the development of the 5G/5G+ network in Q2 2023, and from June customers in cities with coverage benefit from the fastest 5G internet in Romania, with ultra-fast speeds of up to 1 .5 Gbps.
The 5G/5G+ network expanded this quarter in Oradea and Satu Mare, the total number of cities covered reaching 33 at the end of Q2 2023. All customers with Orange or YOXO subscriptions received free access, until August 31, to 5G connectivity, regardless of the service packages used.
Orange Romania has intensified its network expansion actions, in order to provide Internet access to as many Romanians as possible. Thus, during Q2 2023, 4G coverage reached 98.75% of the population, while the 4G+ network covers 81.48% of the population.
In terms of high-speed internet and fiber-optic TV services, more than 500 new localities were covered in the first half of the year. According to the ANCOM report carried out on the basis of Netograf.ro, thanks to constant investments to increase the performance of the network, the average download speed for the Orange mobile network has doubled in 6 years.
At the same time, following the Ookla® analysis of the Speedtest Intelligence® comparative results obtained for Romanian operators in Q1-Q2 2023, Orange was named the fastest fixed network in Romania.
Digital services: YOXO customers, more and more numerous
The popularity of YOXO among customers, the first 100% digital mobile subscription in Romania, without a contract period, led to a 60% increase in users compared to Q2 2022.
In June, the new subscription portfolio was launched, which became and more accessible for customers, and the YOXO app experience has been greatly improved, providing extra flexibility in managing network and roaming services. Due to increased customer interest in digital channels, online sales and remote payments have grown by more than 20% in the last 3 months, while self-service channels have gained more and more ground.
The novelty of the quarter is that now, in the My Orange application, customers can manage several accounts simultaneously and activate automatic recurring bill payment. An important milestone was reached by the Orange community, which reached 4 years and 44,000 members, +50% compared to Q2 2022. The solidarity, active and responsible involvement of the members made this community grow year by year and become an active discussion space on topics related to Orange technology, services and products, being of real help to users.
Social responsibility
135,000 recycled phones and over €800,000 invested in a digital center for equal opportunities for lifelong learning Social responsibility has always occupied a central place in Orange’s operations. The company is committed to drastically reducing its carbon emissions directly related to commercial activities, in line with the Orange Group’s targets, and to make digital technology an engine of equal opportunities. In Q1 2023, the Orange “Re” circular economy program – Buy-Back, Recycling, Repair, Refurbishment – celebrated 1 year since its launch in Romania.
Through the “Re” program, in the first six months of the year, 135,000 phones were collected, which will enter the circular economy through reconditioning or recycling. The company continued to support the activity of the Orange Foundation, which launched the Orange Digital Center Romania in June. The center inaugurated in Bucharest received over €800,000 in funding from the Orange Group and is designed as an “Opportunity Workshop” for people who want to acquire new professional skills and competencies for the digital jobs of the future.
Also in June, Orange Romania and Orange Romania Communications published the sustainability report for the year 2022, the first in which the non-financial results are presented together by the two companies and reveals the common degree of social involvement. The document is a transparency effort that presents information on environmental, social and human resources actions, respect for human rights and ethical issues for both companies, as well as their goals and commitments for the future.
“We are in the middle of a year in which we have demonstrated once again that we are consistent in our mission to provide sustainable connectivity services and to be a reliable partner in the delivery of integrated digital services. Constant investments in the network have allowed us to offer Romanians today the fastest 5G internet in Romania and to continue the expansion of 4G and fixed services. We are proud to be able to contribute, beyond commercial offers, to projects with an impact in reducing the digital gap in the country, an example being the launch, by the Orange Foundation, of the Orange Digital Center. We remain close to our customers, who will always be at the center of Orange Romania’s activity, and we will continue to provide them with the best experience, the best and most accessible services, as well as the latest technologies and speeds. I thank the entire team for their perseverance, dedication and all their efforts in these 6 months!” said Liudmila Climoc, CEO of Orange Romania.
