Exceptional musicians on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum, at theCharitable Royal Concert on October 25th

Every year, this remarkable event draws the interest of art supporters, including diplomatic representatives, prominent figures from the cultural sphere, business leaders, as well as donors and sponsors of the Royal Foundation Margareta of Romania. The Romanian Athenaeum is thus traditionally the host of authentic values and generosity. The noble aim of this gala evening is to provide scholarships for the performance of talented young artists with limited financial resources, offering them the opportunity to develop their artistic gifts. Participants in the event will enjoy a high-class musical experience and will receive a significant confirmation that their support makes a difference.

This year, together on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum at the Charitable Royal Concert, tenor Ioan Hotea and mezzo-soprano Martiniana Antonie will perform in a special event with the noble purpose of raising funds for the Young Talents scholarships. Alongside them, the Romanian Youth Orchestra, conducted by Gabriel Bebeșelea.

Ioan Hotea is a successful tenor on renowned world stages and the laureate of numerous singing competitions, including Hariclea Darclée 2015, Grand Prix, and Operalia Placido Domingo, London 2015. In 2016, he made his debut at the Royal Opera in London and since 2015, he has been engaged at the theater in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Mezzo-soprano Martiniana Antonie is one of the most beautiful voices of the new generation of musicians, gaining great appreciation this year for her role as Rosina at the National Theater Mannheim. Her musical career has been decisively influenced by her time as a scholarship recipient of the Young Talents program, receiving support at the right moment in her development as a lyrical artist.

Gabriel Bebeșelea is one of the most talented Romanian conductors, invited by prestigious orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and Bochum Symphony Orchestra. He is the Principal Conductor of the “Transylvania” State Philharmonic in Cluj-Napoca and the “George Enescu” Philharmonic in Bucharest. In 2023, during the European Capital of Culture, he will be the Resident Conductor of the “Banatul” Philharmonic in Timișoara.

To complete the circle perfectly, his stage partner will be the extraordinary mezzo-soprano Martiniana Antonie, a former scholarship recipient of the Foundation and a concrete demonstration of the powerful impact that FRMR programs have on the future of young talents,” says conductor Gabriel Bebeșelea.

The Romanian Youth Orchestra is considered the best orchestra in the country in recent years, having quickly gained recognition on the international music scene and being appreciated by European critics as a top ensemble worldwide. Established in 2008 at the initiative of cellist Marin Cazacu, it brings together the best young musicians from Romania for a unique artistic experience, aiming to achieve a high level of performance. This year, for the seventh time, the Romanian Youth Orchestra is invited to the “YoungEuroClassic” International Festival in Berlin, one of the most important cultural events of its kind worldwide.

Romania needs art!

Classical music and art enthusiasts can actively contribute to supporting young talents by participating in the Charitable Royal Concert and purchasing tickets. Companies also have the opportunity to join as sponsors of the Young Talents program. The funds raised through these initiatives will have a significant impact on the artistic development of young artists at the beginning of their careers in the coming year, providing them with scholarships, mentoring, and essential promotion. Without this support, talented young individuals in Romania may struggle to realize, or even miss out on, their authentic potential. Over time, the funds accumulated from sponsorships and donations at the Charitable Royal Concert have exceeded the amount of 1,800,000 euros, representing a significant investment in the artistic future of our country. To date, 410 scholarships have been awarded to talented young individuals from low-income backgrounds, and with the support of mentors and sustained promotion, they have achieved remarkable successes both nationally and internationally. The Young Talents program has been recognized four times as the Best Art and Culture Program in Romania, also being a laureate in 2022 at the Civil Society Gala.

Young Talents National Program

Many talented children come from families whose financial possibilities do not allow them to pursue their talents. As a result, Romania loses dozens of talented young individuals every year who could otherwise become cultural ambassadors. Romania needs art! In response to this problem, the Royal Foundation Margareta of Romania has created a national program to support, guide, and promote these talented young artists who come from low-income families and need financial support to reach their true potential and express their talent. 410 young individuals aged between 14 and 24, studying music or visual arts in high schools and universities in Romania, have been helped to overcome financial difficulties and continue to express their artistic value. The Royal Foundation is the sole beneficiary of the Charitable Royal Concert, organized annually since 2008, starting on the birthday of King Michael I of Romania, founder of the Foundation alongside Her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Romanian Crown. Each anniversary edition of the concert has brought the most valuable musicians of the moment and great orchestras to the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum, in support of young Romanian artists

Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation was established in 1990 by King Michael I of Romania and Her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Romanian Crown.
