Energy Minister Burduja: “The ‘Green Corridor’ represents a bold response to the need to diversify energy resources in the region”
The “Green Corridor” project represents a matter of national security and a bold response to the energy trilemma, to the need to diversify energy resources in the region of the eastern flank, the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, said in a press conference.
“Almost two years ago, the “Green Corridor” project was launched in Bucharest. It is a strategic project for the entire European Union, for our entire society. Through this project, today we can launch the joint venture company that will help us carry out the Feasibility Study for the implementation of the project. Indeed, for us, this project is a matter of national security. We are talking a lot about the need for diversification. If you look at the energy map in the last few months, you will see that on on the eastern flank we pay a very high price and that’s because we don’t have enough diversification. The European market doesn’t work well enough. Cheaper energy sources don’t always reach the East, and that’s why we need additional routes for security, for competitiveness. Of course, we are talking about a “Green Corridor”, so we are talking about green energy”, said Burduja, Agerpres reads.
According to the minister, the “Green Corridor” represents a “bold answer to the energy trilemma”.
“The “Green Corridor” project is, in fact, a bold response to the energy trilemma and I am glad that, with the help of my ministerial friends, Bucharest was chosen to host this joint venture company, being an advantage to access European funds and to attract investors. It’s a team effort and, as I said, Bucharest is our home, but also your home from now on. We are waiting for the ninth meeting of this family, which will take place in Baku, and where we will see , of course, the first results regarding the Feasibility Study”, said Burduja.
The Ministry of Energy organized, on Tuesday, at the Victoria Palace, a meeting of the Ministers of Energy from the states involved in the implementation of the “Green Corridor” project, the 8th edition, with the participation of the European Commission (EC).
The countries participating in this project are: Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. The “Green Corridor” project envisages the construction of a direct current cable that will connect the first four states.
