ALRO appoints Marin Cilianu as new CEO
ALRO, one of the largest vertically integrated aluminium producers in Europe, measured by production capacity, announces a leadership transition as Marin Cilianu has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer, in the Board of Directors meeting held today for a mandate until 31st July 2027.
He succeeds Gheorghe Dobra, who has decided to step down after over three decades of service. While Gheorghe Dobra will be stepping away from the role of CEO, he will continue to contribute to ALRO’s strategic direction as a member of the Board of Directors.

His contribution has been integral to making ALRO a global leader in the aluminum sector,” said Marian Năstase, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “We look forward to benefiting from his continued insight and guidance as he will maintain his role in the Board of Directors. We are also looking forward to continuing our strategic development with the support of Marin Cilianu, who proved his professional capabilities over the 12 years he worked as COO of ALRO Primary Aluminium Division and 30 years within the Company”.
Marin Cilianu currently holds the position of Director of Operations – Primary Aluminium. With a career at ALRO starting in 1994, he has held key positions, contributing significantly to the company’s development by modernizing production processes, coordinating projects for ALRO to become a supplier to the aerospace industry, managing investment activities, and organizing operations for the company’s subsidiaries in Romania and abroad.
Marin Cilianu graduated from the Faculty of Materials Science at the Politehnica University of Bucharest and holds a PhD obtained in 2004 with the thesis “Magnetohydrodynamic Phenomena in Industrial Molten Electrolytes”. He also earned an Executive MBA from ASSEBUS & Washington University. Marin Cilianu is a co-author of several patents and has presented papers at both national and international conferences. Additionally, he is a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of Alum Tulcea.
