Ministry of Energy signs 280 million RON contract for the modernization of the district heating network in Arad
The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, signed the financing contract worth almost 280 million RON for the modernization of the district heating network in the Municipality of Arad, through the Modernization Fund.
Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy: “The signing of this contract represents an important moment for the modernization of the district heating network in Arad. The Ministry of Energy allocates 233 million lei, European money, non-reimbursable funds, so that the residents of Arad benefit from a modern and efficient district heating infrastructure. It is another important financing that will improve the lives of Arad residents, ensuring heat and hot water at optimal parameters and fair costs.
The Arad City Hall is also implementing the CET modernization project, worth 534 million RON, which will be completed next year, with financing from the PNRR. I would like the example of good practice from Arad to be applied in all major cities in Romania, including Bucharest, to achieve European performance standards, with the support of European money. We are talking about projects that can fundamentally change the lives of millions of Romanians who live in urban areas and who have expectations for quality local services. It is crucial that all the opportunities we have now are taken advantage of.”
The project aims to rehabilitate almost 47 kilometers of pipes for the transport of the heating agent in the municipality of Arad, with the objectives of reducing losses, making consumption more efficient and extending the life of the network by 30 years.
By signing this new financing contract, the Ministry of Energy will support the implementation of 6 projects in the field of district heating, in Suceava, Craiova, Constanța, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara and Arad. The total value of the projects is over 1.9 billion RON (over 383 million euros), of which 285.5 million euros represent the non-reimbursable financing granted through the Modernization Fund.
