OMV Petrom supports with 1.5 million euro the renovation of the Polizu Hospital, the largest maternity hospital in Romania

OMV Petrom, in partnership with Save the Children Romania, supports with 1.5 million euros the renovation of Polizu Maternity Hospital – the largest unit of its kind in Bucharest and Romania. This initiative will contribute to improving medical conditions for thousands of mothers and newborns across the country, by modernizing the hospital infrastructure and providing updated equipment.
Polizu Maternity Hospital is Romania’s largest intensive care unit for obstetrics and neonatology, serving high-risk pregnancies and premature newborns from across the country. Polizu is also the destination for complex cases such as various foetal conditions and situations where immediate intervention is needed from the very first seconds of life. The hospital is a national referral centre and has significant needs to update its infrastructure and equipment.
Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom: “Our commitment to the community is long-standing, with around 190 million euros invested in social projects since 2007. Health is a priority, and the Polizu Maternity project aligns with our sustainability goals and provides essential resources for thousands of vulnerable patients annually. In addition, we have supported the construction of the new paediatric hospital in Bucharest, the modernization of the Ploiești County Hospital, the Health in the Neighbourhood program, which facilitates access to medical care in isolated communities, and Hospice Home for Hope, which provides palliative care to terminally ill children. We continue to invest in projects with real impact for people and for the future of Romania.”
The overall objective of the project is to improve the quality and safety of health care by modernizing the infrastructure of the Intensive Care Unit and the Operating Room.
The renovation and modernization of the Intensive Care Unit and the Operating Room will improve the management of high-risk pregnancies, reducing the incidence of nosocomial infections and increasing the efficiency of interventions by optimizing medical circuits and shortening emergency response times. In addition, these investments will ensure a friendly and comfortable environment for patients, both during treatment and recovery, with more than 5,000 patients benefiting annually from modern and safe conditions.
Gabriela Alexandrescu, Executive President of Save the Children Romania: “OMV Petrom joins the heartfelt companies that support the Polizu Maternity Hospital project, helping us to get even closer to the completion of the renovation works in the Operating Block and ICU. The support received is a true gesture of solidarity for mothers and newborns in need of specialized care.”
