Government approves a new state aid scheme for large industrial energy consumers

The Government has approved a new state aid scheme dedicated to large industrial energy consumers – from key sectors such as metallurgy, chemistry, construction and other industries essential to the national economy. The measure applies from November 21, 2024, and is valid until December 31, 2031, announced Bogdan Ivan, Minister of Economy.
Eligible operators will benefit from reductions of 75% or 85% of the costs related to the acquisition of green certificates, depending on the sector of activity and its energy intensity.
Starting with 2026, the application for obtaining the Annual Exemption Agreement, accompanied by the related documentation, will be submitted by September 15 of each year.
The scheme has an annual budget ceiling of EUR 150 million, out of a total budget of EUR 578.4 million, for approx. 200 beneficiaries.
“The measure is authorized by the European Commission and does not involve funds from the state budget, being supported by contributions from energy suppliers. This is the right direction: real solutions for the competitiveness of Romanian industry, investments in clean technologies and compliance with European decarbonization objectives,” said the Minister of Economy.
