LeaderTalks in ENERGY – BOGDAN CHIRITOIU, President, Competition Council: The measures we take must consider the medium-term necessities of the entire economy and we need to support the industries in stress
We have no budgetary restrictions anymore, regarding the state aid for example. The flexibility of the state regulations is very high. However, we must show responsibility and implement the measures that make sense for the entire economy. We support the small companies to maintain their workforce and benefit from liquidity. There will probably be supporting measures for large companies as well. Energy does not seem – and is not seen at Brussels or for us, as it is affected by this particular crisis in particular.
Regarding the payment schedule for utilities and the deferral of bank rates – some companies in the energy sector have a solid situation and can afford to support other economic sectors. In the context of decreased consumption in the energy market, the companies operating in the industry may be affected but I have the feeling that we see them rather as generators of solutions throughout the economy. We need to take measures that are in line with what the economy needs on the medium term. Although the rules seem now more flexible, we need to support those sectors that need help. The topic of decarbonization will not disappear and the restructuring at the Hunedoara Energy Complex and the Oltenia Energy Complex (CE Oltenia) should be managed further. I am aware that there are two companies in ongoing process of selling before the crisis, Enel and respectively CEZ. We must take care so that we do not impact the financial situation of these two companies and to provide predictability and stability for all the actors in the energy field.
