First home buyer scheme continues for 2011 at reduced size

NATIONWIDE Romania’s Government is entering into the third year of the state-backed guarantee fund for first-time buyers - Prima Casa (First Home) with 200 million Euro for 2011, using the unexploited amounts from the scheme in 2009 and 2010

February 2011 - From the Print Edition

Under the scheme, first-time buyers can take out a loan from a private bank to purchase a home at an attractive interest rate, with the amount guaranteed by the state.
The total sum assigned for Prima Casa II in 2010 was 700 million Euro, from which 13,319 contracts were granted, worth a total of 538 million Euro.
The government decided to continue it this year with unused money tired up in programmes for 2010 and 2009, which exceed 300 million Euro.
The guaranteed amounts will remain the same for Prima Casa III - 60,000 Euro for a non-new home, 70,000 Euro for a new home and 75,000 Euro to build a home.
In 2010, Romanians chose to buy homes with an average value of 41,200 Euro, half of them chose apartments with two bedrooms, while a quarter bought three-bedroom apartments.
The largest number of requests for Prima Casa II were from Bucharest (30.5 per cent), Cluj county (7.67 per cent) and Timis county (5.48 per cent).
