Jeffrey Franks: I had very good talks with the Romanian minister of Finances today
During this morning, on his scheduled visit at Buchaest, the chief of International Monetary Fund for Romania, Jeffrey Franks said that the meeting with the Minister of Finances concluded in very good talks. February 2012
The IMF chief was present at the meeting together with Istvan Székely the manager for Romania of Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission. According to sources from Government, the intention letter is not on the agenda of this meeting, which is officialy a visit of courtesy, according to Romania’s representative at IMF, Mihai Tanasescu.
Prime Minister Razvan Mihai Ungureanu invited Jeffrey Franks, the head of International Monetary Fund’s mission in Romania and Istvan Szekely, the head for Romania of the General Directorate of European Commission to a “working visit” in Bucharest, to take place between 21-22 of February. The discussions will target current economic topics except the intention letter, according to statements of Government officials.
At the beginning of this month, IMF reached an agreement with Romanian authorities following the fourth evaluation of the stand-by prevention accord of the fund and decided to assign a new tranche of EUR 505 million, after the IMF’s board will give its approval, according to a statement of IMF lead in Romania, Jeffrey Franks. The money will be assigned to Romania at the end of March this year. The prevention agreement between Romania and IMF has been launched in March 2011 and it amounts to EUR 3.6 billion.
