Green energy production reaches record value at yearend

Production of green energy reached record value at the end of 2013, when the total capacity of existing renewable energy connected to the system exceeded 3.757 MW, 60 percent more compared to the end of 2012, according to data of Transelectrica.

2014-01-07 18:01:12

In the first 11 months of 2013, renewable energy projects with a total capacity over 1.400 MW have been installed, adding to the already installed 2.335 MW at the time. As 2013 has been the year with the highest number of green installed projects, the largest lap has been posted by photovoltaic projects. At the end of November 2013, PV projects of 740 MW have been put in place, 15 times more compared with the end of 2012, when the PV projects stood for only 49 MW.

In wind energy, the projects totaled 2.459 MW in 2013, compared with 1.822 MW installed at the end of 2012. Also, the power system comprises micro-hydro centrals of 505 MW in 2013, compared with 405 MW existing in December 2012. The biomass has been represented by 53 MW in 2013, compared with 40 MW in 2012.

Romania reached the target for 2020, with 24 percent of gross internal power consumption to be represented by green energy. In 2005, this value stood for 17 percent. As the most generous scheme in Europe, Romanian wind projects received 2 green certificates for each delivered MWh, while the PV projects benefited from six certificates. The micro hydro centrals received three green certificates.

The National Authority of Regulating in the Field of Energy (ANRE) announced that due to this situation, the subventions for green projects will be reduced and delayed to 2017-2020, following a decision announced in July 2013. Following this decision, the PV projects will receive 4 certificates, while the wind projects will receive one out of two. The micro-hydro centrals will receive two certificates out of three. The projects installed as of January 2014 will receive a lower number of subventions
