The change in the lifestyle and the necessity of finding fast and effective mobility solutions with the aim of reaching green
targets, mirrored in ground-breaking innovations in this industry. Advancing autonomous driving, connected vehicles,
sustainable and smart city transportation, and the use of mobility as a service (MaaS) are just few of the components
of the emerging strong industries’ synergy.
Moreover, there is a growing interest in the development and use of assisted driving and increasingly automated
vehicles. Meanwhile, concerns over safety and security issues of past years indicate that the overall road infrastructure,
the availability of e-charging points, the prices of electric vehicles and their current autonomy are still to be improved
and implemented at large scale.
To highlight the evolution of e-mobility and green-mobility segments, THE DIPLOMAT-BUCHAREST & AUTOMOTIVE TODAY
organize the second edition of GREEN MOBILITY in 2022, on October 13, in Bucharest
The Forum aims at highlighting the main developments of e-mobility projects in Romania in 2022. The intersection of technology innovations such as electrification, connectivity, and automation with new consumption trends such as shared mobility and the climate emergency are fundamentally changing the way people and goods are moving

• TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY: THE VOICE OF AUTHORITIES AND INDUSTRY LEADERS
There is a strong shift, especially in urban areas, of the demand for smarter, more efficient means of transportation. This shift in
transportation emphasized the initiatives for green transformation of transportation of the mobility sector. At the end of 2020,
the EU Commission published its Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy for the next four years, in line with the European
Green Deal’s 80% emissions cut target by 2050. To make this happen, new infrastructures such as available and efficient charging
networks and hydrogen distribution networks need to be developed and widely deployed. The guidelines of the automotive
industry and the EU’s current regulations stand for the good practices and shape the green design of the overall mobility.
• SMART MOBILITY: FUTURE EXPECTATIONS VS. PRESENT REALITY
The mobility of the future will be more diverse, more intelligent, more shared, and cleaner. "The future of sustainability
begins with mobility," says the UN's World Economic Forum. In this future, the car will still play a major role - but it
will no longer be as important as it is today. According to the "Mobility Futures" study by the British market research
company Kantar, 51 percent of mobility in large cities worldwide is still done by car. In 2030, this figure is expected to be
46 percent - but then increasingly with cars that are shared, electric and autonomous. However, the future of mobility
has to adjust to the particularities of each country, region and community and has to resonate with their needs.
• THE CIRCULAR DESIGN OF MOBILITY: CREATING NEW BUSINESS MODELS
Experts predicted that 2021 was the year of the electric vehicle, while 2022 is the year of circular design.
This means that the automotive and connected industries work with concepts such as green-design, ecodesign
and sustainable design. Circular design is also about creating new business models. The producers’ value
chains started to shift from being linear to circular. The optimization of recycling processes can be a catalyst
to avoid the risk of chip shortages that the automotive industry has struggled with in the past year.
Car producers, retailers, supply chain actors and charging points developers and suppliers, along with users
are engaged in the overall evolution of e-mobility and the greener future of transportation. This has to be
supported in transparent and aligned manner by public authorities and city administrations.

• THE GREEN ECOSYSTEM OF MOBILITY: ECOLOGICAL AND EFFICIENT MANUFACTURING
Besides adjusting a functionable and effective transportation infrastructure, the manufacturing of cars and sub-parts plays
a significant role in the overall equation of green mobility. The innovative green painting processes, green manufacturing
of vehicles and sub-systems, affordable manufacturing and purchase of green vehicles, besides digital manufacturing for
integrated product and process development and virtual engineering for product and process performance management
over the whole lifecycle are all components that have to reason with each other in coherent effective manner.
• THE NEW URBAN MOBILITY: GREEN INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS AND TECH-BASED APPLICATIONS
The mobility patterns of the users have changed, with the young generations being the early adopters of everything that is new,
tech-based and ready to use. E-mobility and shared transportation models form a suitable symbiosis for private investors. Electric
vehicles and micro-mobility are also enjoying synergies. The tech investors, start-ups and software producers are highly connected
to the needs of the automotive and e-mobility sectors and enable businesses to launch and scale EV and charging points solutions.
