Romania's recycling timetable: what, when, how
Although Romania has made some progress in improving its waste management over the past few years, the overall picture still includes very low recycling rates and heavy reliance on landfill. By 2020, the main municipal waste obligation assumed by Romania before the European Union is the recycling of 50 percent of the total mass of waste paper, metal, plastic and glass. According to a report by the European Commission (EC) in July 2012, Romania recycled only 1.3 percent of municipal waste in 2010, a result which placed the country close to the bottom of the member state ranking.
