Decline in recycled light bulbs follows sales drop

The quantity of waste from used light bulbs collected for recycling declined by 14 per cent in 2009, compared to 2008, following a drop of in sales of light bulbs, according to waste management association Recolamp. Bulb sales dropped last year by 27 per cent compared to 2008, according to data released by 111 lighting source producers. Recolamp last year recycled over 138 tonnes of lighting waste and expanded its collection centres by 500 per cent against 2008, to 3,500 centres countrywide. The 111 lighting source producers delivered seven million units on the market. In the first half of this year Recolamp collected 49.5 tonnes of used light sources.
