Checking out the hotel market

Whilst the beginning of 2013 did not see much activity for the hospitality business, hotel operators saw an improvement this fall and managed to increase both their occupancy rate and leisure business. The Diplomat Bucharest talked to key industry players to find out what caused the growth and what else is shaping the current hotel industry

Although it has never been subsidized by the state and the investments made in its infrastructure and promotion have been fairly minimal, the hospitality industry is one of Romania's main image drivers. Currently, Bucharest has 152 active hotel units, totaling 10,775 rooms, of which the 11 five-star and 65 four-star hotels account for more than 72 percent of the accommodation space, according to a study by hotel management company Peacock Hotels.
