New car registrations increased 14 percent in January
The registrations of new cars increased in January with 13.07 per cent compared year on year and reached 7.087 units, according to data made available by the Department for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration in Romania (DRPCIV). 2014-02-12 11:27:16
In January, Dacia cars maintained the leading position within the overall registrations, with 1.461 registered cars, followed by Skoda with 456 cars, stating an increase of almost 50 percent y-o-y, Volkswagen with 434 cars and 6.23 per cent increase compared with January 2013 and Ford, with 429 cars and almost a double value compared with January 2013.
The Romanian national car park is estimated at 5.98 million cars at the end of 2013, 4.73 percent up compared with the same period of 2012 According to official data, out of 5.8 million cars active on national roads, around 4.7 million are small vehicles and over 3.3 million operates gas engines. According to the quoted source, around 1.91 million have between 6 to 10 years while 1.42 million have between 11 and 15 years old.
Overall, 2.35 million Romanians would prefer a car with Diesel engine, while 3.32 million prefer the gas. Bucharest is the Romanian city with the largest volume of old cars, with 400.000 vehicles over 10 years.
A recent statement uttered by Constantin Stroe, vice-president of Dacia Renault Group shows that the local car market records a seriously low level, as for each new car sold, another 11 second-cars are imported.
