Romania to register the lowest price of natural gas for households in the EU

In the second half of 2013, Romania registered the lowest price (in Euro) in terms of natural gas for households, namely 3.1 Euro per 100 kWh, less than half of the EU average price of 7.1 Euro per 100 kWh, according to data released in late May by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, quoted by Energielive.ro. Adjusted to the purchasing power standard (PPS), the lowest natural gas prices for households were recorded in Luxembourg (4.7 PPS per 100 kWh), Latvia (5.2 PPS per 100 kWh), UK (5.7 PPS per 100 kWh), Belgium (six PPS per 100 kWh) and Romania (6.2 PPS per 100 kWh), while the highest prices were seen in Bulgaria (11.6 PPS per 100 kWh), Portugal (11.5 PPS per 100 kWh), Greece (10.1 PPS per 100 kWh), Lithuania (ten PPS per 100 kWh) and Spain (9.8 PPS per 100 kWh). Furthermore, regarding the electricity for the population, Romania is among the countries with the lowest prices in the EU, with a tariff of 12.8 Euro per 100 kWh, lower prices being recorded only in Bulgaria (8.8 Euro for 100 kWh). The average price in the EU was 20.1 Euro per 100 kWh.
