Bribe allegations tighten on UK manufacturer

At the end of last month UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) asked the UK Attorney General to bring charges of international corruption against aerospace company BAE Systems, in part of an investigation which has included the manufacturer’s sale of two second-hand frigates to the Romanian navy. In 2003 the UK Ministry of Defence sold two used frigates to Romania in a 116 million GBP (approx. 168 million Euro) Government-to-Government contract. The SFO has been investigating payments of seven million GBP (approx ten million Euro) from BAE Systems to a UK middleman Barry George, the UK press report.
