KMG International has invested in Romania over 1.56 billion dollars in the last seven years

KMG International, the former Rompetrol Group announced it had invested in Romania over 1.56 billion dollars in the last seven years, and of that amount 600 million dollars targeted environment management, according to the company's Sustainable Development Report.

2015-08-25 12:48:53

According to the cited source, the Group has processed over 33 million tonnes of raw material (of which more than 9.4 million tonnes in the 2013 to 2014 reporting period), and has contributed to the state budget over 3.2 billion dollars in the past two years.

"At the level of environment management - following the investments to upgrade the Petromidia Refinery, KMG International became in 2013 the first local fuel producer to have aligned to the Euro-5 emissions standard, and the refinery has improved its energy intensity index. Also, one of the major performances recorded by the Group is complying with the national and European environmental norms on emissions of sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and powders (the SO2 emissions were reduced by 90.63pct in 2013)," reads a Group′s release.

At the same time, from 2013 to 2014, at KMG International there were no accidents with casualties. The company′s employees are Romanian citizens in a proportion of 76pct.

"The report illustrates the constant involvement of KMG International, as an important player in the Romanian economy, in local communities, customers, employees and partners, but also its future commitments relative to these. The Group′s approach of sustainability is to manage in an integrated manner the risks and opportunities related to refining, trading, retail and industrial services in line with national and international legislation, in order to achieve a high level of profitability for stakeholders," said Zhanat Tussupbekov, the Group′s CEO.

KMG International, through its 52 member companies, conducts major operations in refining, petro-chemistry, retail, trading, upstream and industrial services in 15 countries. In Romania, the Group operates the Petromidia Navodari Refinery, with a processing capacity of over five million tonnes per year, the Vega Ploiesti Refinery - the oldest unit of its kind, in operation since 1905 and the only domestic producer of bitumen and polymer-modified bitumen, but also a fuels distribution network of over 740 petrol stations.
