French and Greeks win 1.5 billion Euro mountain motorway project
Romania’s toughly fought auction for the mountain motorway between Comarnic and Brasov in the Prahova Valley will be built by a consortium set up by French and Greek construction companies Vinci and Aktor June 2009 - From the Print Edition
This is the first contract for a motorway concession approved by the Romanian Government. Vinci-Aktor will design, build and finance 55 km of the A3 motorway and then manage the project for 30 years. Users of the motorway will pay a toll for using the road from the fifth year of concession. Drivers will pay two Euro in the first year and then the tariff is dependent on the consortium.
“The winning consortium will also design and build the commercial spaces and will undertake maintenance during summer and winter,” said Radu Berceanu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. The works will start in May 2010 after the Government finishes the expropriation of land for this section and will be completed in 2014.
Vinci-Aktor won the 1.5 billion Euro concession contract, against consortia Astrada (made up of Strabag, Egif and Eurovia) and A3 (consisting of Bilfinger-Berger and Porr).
