An alleged informer to the Communist secret police, the Securitate, has been appointed to the presidency of Romania’s Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM).
Judge Florica Bejinaru, 48, was voted by the 19-strong council to one of the most senior legal positions in Romania for a one-year term, in a post where she oversees the work of judges and prosecutors.
The election was condemned by civil society and magistrates’ groups.
