At a difficult and delicate period in the history of the European Union, Great Britain assumes the bloc's presidency for six months. Ambassador Quinton Quayle, head of the EC Delegation Jonathan Scheele, European ambassadors and members of the Government gathered at the British Ambassador's residence to celebrate the new Euro boss. During this term of office, the British will oversee the launch of the European Commission's Monitoring Report on Romania on 25 October, which will help decide whether Romania should join the union in 2007 or 2008
 

 
Canada's Embassy and Ambassador Franco D Pillarella welcomed dignitaries and guests to celebrate Canada Day in the garden of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. A broad selection of international cuisine were on offer veiled in the enticing fumes of Romanian mici were provided.

Despite raging storm-clouds and torrential rain, hundreds flocked to the American Independence Day celebrations, sponsored by the American Chamber of Commerce. Both party rockers the Elite Art Band and bourbon brand Jack Daniel's managed to keep the spirits high as outgoing charge d'affaires Thomas Delare registered his Government's hopes in the new administration. Mr Delare has moved on to arguably more dangerous territory, as he becomes economic counsellor at the American Embassy in Baghdad.
 

 
Overseen by President Traian Basescu and dignitaries from the French Embassy and Government, an exhibition opened detailing the transformation of French fine art, 'Ombres et lumieres - Quatre Siecles de Peinture Franchaise' at the National Art Museum, Bucharest. At the ball afterwards, French Ambassador to Romania Herve Bolot, French Minister of Culture and Communication Renaud Dannedieu de Vabres, Mona Musca, Ion Tiriac, Ion Iliescu, Emil Constantinescu along with foreign ambassadors gathered to celebrate Bastille Day.
 

 
On behalf of the diplomatic corps of Romania, Monsignor Jean-Claude Perisset, Vatican Ambassador honoured departing Ambassador of Egypt Wafaa Bassim with a ceremonial plate on the occasion of the North African country's national day.
