LITHUANIA |
With an embassy now based in Greece, Lithuania is looking for a proper person to be nominated as an honorary consul in Romania. Eitvydas Bajarunas, the director of Europe Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lithuania said: “Several leading Lithuanian companies have recently expressed strong business interests in Romania. To facilitate bilateral dialogue in all fields, Lithuania is seriously considering opening an embassy in Bucharest… a realistic term for the opening is 2007.” |

SOUTH AFRICA |
“We will be opening a diplomatic mission in Bucharest in the near future,” Leo Conradie, director for the central Europe's sub-directorate, the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs told The Diplomat. “Subject to obtaining the required financial resources, and identifying the appropriate human resources, but the intention is to do so as a matter of urgency.” In preparation, an advance team from the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited Bucharest in February to investigate establishing a mission.
Due to financial constraints, South Africa decided to close its residential mission in Bucharest in 1998. |

ESTONIA |
With a Romanian diplomatic representation in Warsaw, Estonia is actively seeking a candidate for an Honorary Consul and hopes that “a suitable person will be appointed as soon as possible” according to the Estonian foreign ministry. |

SLOVENIA |
“It is in our plans to open an Embassy before the EU accession,” Minister Plenipotentiary, Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jadranka Sturm Kocjan told The Diplomat. The former Yugoslav republic uses the Warsaw Embassy as its current accredited base for Romania. |
